ICP and the Juggalo a gang or not!

Insane Clown Posse - is a Hip-Hop group that performs hardcore music termed "horrorcore" it is known for it's dark and violent lyrics.

Insane Clown Posse is an underground rap group that got its start in Detroit in the early 1990s. The early days, Joe Bruce ("Violent J") and Joey Ustler("Shaggy 2 Dope") grew up in the nicer suburbs of Detroit, but were underprivileged. They grew up drinking a cheap soda popular in the Michigan area called Faygo. Even now, at concerts, the band often sprays Diet Faygo into the crowd.

ICP fans or followers are called Juggalos and Juggalettes. They don't see themselves as a gang, but as individuals. But by legal definition are considered a gang. Juggalos also identify themselves by the hatchetman logo and are known to carry hatchets and knives as weapons.

Juggalo and Juggalettes
The population of this group is mainly Caucasian.
The Juggalos can be identified by heavy clown make-up (sadistic wicked-type faces and jester style), tattoos, clothing, and specific music possessions.
They wear dark clothing, but do like to also dress in bright clown colors, dye their hair in bright colors, and wear Mohawks. They like to stand out and be noticed.

They tag areas with “ICP”, “Dark Lotus”, etc. They also have their own hand signs.

Juggalos are changing. If you were to meet a juggalo from back in 1995 and compare them to today's juggalos than you would see a totally different mind set.

A recent post from a Juggalo, "Im almost sick of calling myself a juggalo because of people being crazy and stupid my homie was killed by a juggalo because he thought he was a blood because he had all red on and he didn't see juggalo in white on his shirt. he thought he was part of a gang. being a juggalo isn't what it used to be people don't know what it means to be a juggalo anymore."

So why the Tagging or graffiti? I still don't know.

The primary difference between gang graffiti and plain old tagger art, is that you can read gang graffiti clearly. When you can read the initials or name it’s usually gang graffiti, because they are doing it to make it clear that is their territory. On the other hand, elaborate designs in which individual letters can’t be discerned are often just marks of vandalism by people with an ego and a spray can. Quote

  1. Im a Juggalo myself , I stay off Ridgewood and N. Pottenger , and we're not a gang , as far as tha vandalism , you'd have to ask the artist , but dont hold all of us accountable . I find it odd that this graffiti gets all the attention , no one seems to mention all the ifg and ncg tags , just us juggalos . The thing that most people don't get is that we're more like an anti-gang , we're against prejudice , victimizing , hard drugs , and beleive in a righteous presence , call it what you will. All I ask is that you ask the youth of the area you claim to care so much about , we as the youth are the future of this community and not involving us will only increase the lack of communication , and the problems in our community . We as the youth experince this neighborhood first hand day to day . Im fifteen and I care about this community as much - if not more - than anybody else . I geuss what Im trying to say is please listen to the neighborhood youth , and dont descriminate against us just because you dont understand us , we love this community just as y'all do , its our home too.

    Thanks for your time ,

  2. Kool, In my post I made a couple of references to the feelings of Juggalo's that do not consider themselves as a gang. And that it is due to the actions of other persons that are starting to act like gang members that is giving you as a group a bad rep. You can see why people would get upset, when they wake up in the morning and walk outside and see graffiti on their cars, homes, streets and Churches. You as a community of youth needs to stand up and be heard. I agree with you that today's youth are our future. My advice to you, would be to attend the City meetings, attend the neighborhood watch meetings and let your voice be heard as to what the Youth of the city of Shawnee needs. You write very well, send a letter to the Shawnee News-Star as to the feeling of you and your fellow Juggalo's about the graffiti, not only ifg, ncg, icp, bc, and others that are around town. It is up to each individual as to the path in life that they choose to take. It is up to you and others where they want to go.

  3. I also am a Juggalo, and i see where each point of views come from, most Juggalos around Shawnee have forgotten what being a Lo is all about, if u ask me they just want to be heard or seen, and noticed as a gang, but the funny thing is its never been a gang, it all about family and a relationship with all the juggalos around the world who are discriminated because they dress different or wear face paint. If you would ask me the Shawnee youth is confused, get bored and have nothing better to do but cause trouble, but if there where more communative activities around to attend maybe our youth will show up to be heard.....

  4. im a juggalo myself, from fresno ca, juggalos are an official gang here in fresno and the next town over, clovis. one of the reasons i got kicked out of my school is for gang offiliation. 1 thing some people need to make clear is juggahoe from juggalo, juggahoes, r fake, they arent real and they are setting out a horrible name for the real ones...me i paint my face, listin to icp, and chill wit my homies, thats all i do, i commit no crimes at all! but now i am a gang member for doing nothing all because others set out a bad name...a so called "juggalo" who called himself bartneder raped 3 girls and assaulted another, and did that in the name juggalo, a so called juggalo who called himself "joker" was at a mall with marijuana, a meat cleaver and was high on crystal meth, he was planning to murder 3 people, in the name of juggalo, we also were on the front page of the fresno bee, on wether or not we were a gang...WE ARE NOT A GANG, u dont consider the white race, or black race a gang because a couple people of that race did crimes and NEITHER SHOOD WE!

  5. MY NAMES BROOKE IM 17 IM FROM TULSA OKLAHOMA AND I AM A JUGGALETTE AND I AM INFURIATED ABOUT THIS WHOLE ORDEAL ABOUT BEING CONSIDERED A GANG SOME OF US JUST REP THE BAND STUFF AND ENJOY THE MUSIC,IT CAN CALM SOME PEOPLES NERVES IF YOUR IN TO "OUR" TYPE STUFF. ITS STUPID THAT THEY WOULD CLASSIFY ALL JUGGALOS AND LETTES AS A GANG JUST BECAUSE SOME STUPID PEOPLE WENT CRAZY IF YOU WANT TO GET TECHNICAL ABOUT IT ITS LIKE A BIG FAMILY ALL THE LO'S AND LETTE'S WATCH OUT FOR ONE ANOTHER AND TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER WHEN IN TIME OF NEED LIKE A FAMILY WOULD. THE SECURITY GUARDS AT MY SCHOOL TAKE AWAY OUR HATCHET GEAR SUCH AS BEANIES AND HATCHET CHARMS I ALMOST GOT MINE TAKEN ONE DAY AND I TALKED MY WAY OUT OF IT BY ASKING THE SECURITY GAURD IF HE WOULD EVER TAKE LITTLE JOHNS CRUNK JUICE AWAY? HE SAID WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH YOUR NECKLACE? I SAID LITTLE JOHN REPRESENTS HIMSELF BY CREATING THINGS THAT PEOPLE WILL BUY AND USE FOR PUBLICATION THAT IS WHAT ICP DOES WITH THEIR HATCHET MEN AND HATCHET GIRL STUFF SO YOU CANT HAVE MY "CRUNK JUICE!". THE SONGS MAY BE VIOLENT BUT TO ME ITS ALL ABOUT THEIR PERSONAL OPINIONS ON LIFE THEIR JUST EXPRESSING THEMSELVES THROUGH MUSIC ITS YOUR CHOICE IF YOU WANT TO LISTEN TO IT OR NOT. NO ONE SAID HAD TOO AND NO ONE CAN CHANGE AN OPINION OF ANOTHER. MUCH MUCH WICKED CLOWN LOVE TO ALL MY FAMILY WHOOP WHOOP!!!!!!

I do always seem to get followed by the okc / yukon cops... god forbid I have my hatchetman chain on when I go in a quick stop, seems like they think im gonna rob the place.. I do agree the younger group acts more differently then us older peeps, but thats to be expected.. maybe us older los n lettes should be more... well.. guide them... 10. While I think Juggalos are a problem, I do not feel they have the mental capacity required to organize as a gang.

  12. Um, there is no "Juggalo Holocaust"... what you are referring to is no more than an internet frabrication; a result of society's gag reflex to the juggalo. Though I am not surprised you don't get it; after all, any group that can be brainwashed into painting themselves like clowns obviously lacks a bit of individual brainpower.

As for what gave me the impression that juggalos are a bunch of idiots, well I'd have to say that was a result of the majority of juggalo based postings, not to mention your visual appearance. Brooke's post above is rather stereotypical of what juggalos post (actual hers comes across somewhat intelligent for the common juggalo).

  13. Does it matter if they're a gang? I mean, really, who wants hoodlams that look like that in their neighborhood?

I wish the police would still handle things like the did back in the old days - off the books and in the alley. You didn't have kids doing this back then (or they learned better)

"The people that say were gang members are pushing us farther an farther into gang activitys."

That statement confirms that the juggalos are acting as a gang.

  17. Juggalos proudly flaunt their disdain of social norms as all sub-cultures do, but there is in their iconography a sort of beacon for degeneracy, a metaphysical call through the collective unconscious that targets the most inhuman of us. There is no convention or norm we hold dear that Juggalos will accept, whether it is sober living or humane treatment of animals, for the Juggalo believes he or she transcends the laws of America just as the Fool transcended the laws of nature in medieval passion plays. If there is a term to sum up the philosophy of the Juggalos it is this: Secular Antinomianism.

  18. I believe that identities are a gift from God. I feel we were created to live in THIS world... In the 90's I listened and even went to ICP concerts. I respect music as an outlet for expressing yourself just as many of the Lo say is the purpose of the "look" some of y'all were talking about. HOWEVER, I feel a great deal of anger as a Husband, Father, and Individual, when I have to wake up to my "individual" property getting tagged(Ruined) for no reason what-so-ever. That's not individuality being expressed that's a pre-meditated moment of pure idiocy. This is not what the ICP group wanted...I know... I've been there, however it's up to the "descent society" as a whole bunch of family jugs to teach people that you don't have to disrespect to get RESPECT...

    Any Current Lo members agree?

  19. "descent society" and juggalos don't belong in the same sentence.

  20. I am a grandmother in my forties. My husband and I are both gainfully employed and would be considered upper-middle class by those that like to make such classifications. We own our own home (actually TWO homes). Most days we are dressed fairly conservaively.... BUT.... we are JUGGALO FAMILY! Gang affiliated?!?! Really? How ridiculous! We enjoy all of the music, and the philosophy of the culture that is Juggalo. Anyone who *cares* to do their homework would discover that. All of this gang-type activity that is being attributed to some kind of "juggalo gang" (ad nauseum) is really just the acting out of bored kids without parental guidance, some of whom coincidentally happen to be ICP fans. Remember what happened to music fans in the 60's and 70's. The ignorant and fearful are quick to persecute that which is "not us" and love to jump an the proverbial band-wagon. In closing: PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR CHILDREN *BEFORE* THEY FEEL THE NEED TO FIND AN ALTERNATIVE FAMILY.
and..... MMFWCL to all my little Lo brothers and Lette sisters out there. Being down is what we're all about - remember that! WHOOP WHOOP!

Tha fact is the majority of juggalos are violent gangbangers.

  22. First of all whoop whoop to all my homies i stay off of downtown crystal lake il and people can think what they want of us you fear the unknown and what u don't understand. we paint our faces to rep that where clowns as far as you who don't know youll here a whoop whoop from one juggalo/juggalette to another it's kind of a hay whats up. But for those who are hardcore down with the clown as we say if you where to say something bad about the juggalo's you would get hurt. but just because you don't understand us dont me where stupid, not smart or any of that.

  23. Im a Juggalo and I've only been down for 5 years. I am 17 years old But I have full confidence that I know exactly what it really means to be a Juggalo. Juggalos started out as the underdog, the wierd kid in the back of the class or the homless freak down on his luck. Deep down, Juggalos are about acceptance, appreciation for eachother and seeing the world for what it really is. Around here though, I come across alot of Juggalos being picked on by gang members or even getting beaten up. Unfortunatley, sometimes we have to be as hard as other gangs to survive. Juggalos always stick up for eachother, whether it be just being a friend to one or actually fighting for eachother

  25. I'm a mother of two Juggalos, one 19 and the other 16. I have been trying for a couple of years to get them to quit this "Gang." It's been nothing but heartache and trouble ever since they've been involved. Everything from fighting to stealing and doing drugs. Their so called "Family" is nothing but a made up group of stoners, drop-outs and thieves (the cream of the crop). A lot of these kids come from disfunctional homes and some are even homeless, they spend their nights begging for money.

It's really big out here in our community, Santa Clarita, California. There have been reported incidences of Rapes, Kidnappings, Robberies and Drugs. They really are no different from any other gang.

My 16 year old is getting help from a psychologist, but he refuses to leave the Juggalos. It's a tough road to go down, please think twice before ever getting involved with this gang or any other.
